Whispers je ještě malá a bez své sloní mámy toho moc nezvládne. Když se jednoho dne zatoulá, dostane velký strach, že už nikdy nenajde svou rodinu. Při hledání cesty zpátky narazí na Groove, který býval členem jejího stáda. Proto se rozhodne zůstat s ním. Společně pak čelí temnému lesu a nebezpečí, které tam v noci na ně číhá. Ale i přes všechny nástrahy se v bezpečí dostanou k Velké řece, kde začíná ráj pro slony.
